It would be melted to make cutlery but not always for making jewelry. Sometimes it would be silver wire worked into shape or perhaps even carved. Most often though, it would just be melted and moulded.

Yes that is one method but not the only one. Silver can be brought in sheets of size and thickness aswell and robs. Its true that chains can be brought ready made. Anyway the jewellery and silverwear i’ve made, i’ve made from a flat sheet. So the metal needs to be cut out, formed and soldered abit to get the desired piece.
