What Makes Gold So Dear?… What Would Happen If Gold Lost Its Lustre? (yes, Pun)?
A yellow metal, that is, why should it rule our economy? What if everybody stopped buying and even wearing gold jewelry, besides putting an end to using gold for any other purpose, and instead aluminium becomes the most exclusive and sought after metal?
Would then the world bank and all other banks trash out gold, and start stockpiling aluminium…. while the common man (and the elite) start amassing aluminium to maintain their affluent status?………. and would the poor and needy have to do with settling down to eating from golden plates (!), while the prosperous partied with aluminium crockery and cutlery,…. and jewelry?… and would the gods and goddesses in the places of worship, be given a make-over with ‘rich aluminium’, with all the ‘lack-lustre’ gold getting dumped in the by lanes of the down-trodden? lol
Can gold ever lose its lustre……. if so, how? I look forward to ingenious deliberations from all my contacts and friends…………..

Your point is extremely astute and without economic flaw. People still think that gold is some kind of universal panacea for correction and maintaining an economic stabilized society. Complete bullshit. You can’t eat gold or drink it. It has a value ONLY BECAUSE PEOPLE THINK IT IS VALUABLE. You could substitute aluminum, brass, nickel or tulip bulbs if people are stupid enough to place an arbitrary value on it. In fact, certain color tulip bulbs were at one time in history more valuable than gold (this is true, read economic history). Value is the assets and the ability to produce goods or services that PEOPLE CAN USE TO SUSTAIN THEMSELVES. Ala, the faith people have in one another to work and purchase goods and services. So much for my lecture on the PERCEIVED value of gold. Tune in next for a sound explanation that ALL VALUE COMES FROM LABOR AND ALL COSTS ARE PASSED ON.
gold has many exclusive properties which distinguish it from all other metals.so it is chosen to represent money.
I was just reading about “Aurum Gold”….vs “Colloidal Gold”…and the differences between them.
(I am not an Alchemist…so I will not delve into the matter at this time).
Edit: Anita, I wish to add something here….it is unwise to boil fluoridated water in an aluminum pot. I’m not concerned with the economic state of the planet…I am however…concerned with the spiritual/emotional/mental health of the people who reside upon it.
We made it up!!
just like Diamonds, Champagne, $60.000 dresses, and crude Oil.!
if u see its minute particles…the real colour of gold is red… it just appear to be golden….
nd platinum is more precious than gold…
stll people r mad after gold…lolz
compared to other metals, gold is the most malleable
cubic inch could form a wire, stretching a mile
a good conductor of electricity, (it needs alloy, it cannot stand pure solid)
industrial and electronic to nuclear devices uses gold considerably
among other uses, gold were the accepted exchange before and up to now
by civil societies, we need to (invent and accept) make one
(,,,,to those who refuse to acknowledge its uses and its values we have created
,,,meaning, it is a creation of men under the circumstances he belonged to a civil society in which he live)
Rarity makes it precious. Since the beginning of the human civilization, only about 90,000 tons of gold were extracted, while copper or iron or aluminium are produced in million of tones a year. Besides, gold keeps its qualities even if it is buried in earth for centuries. All the other metals are much cheaper compared with gold. That’s the reason people considered it as a universal value
GOLD is so dear because of its less availability, non oxidizing capability (so that it keeps its luster) …
If it’s losing its luster, it means it’s oxidizing (by scientific reason). After oxidization it will no more valuable, and not even remain usable for crockery products.
Don’t you think it’s a silly thought that World Bank would start stockpiling aluminium instead of keeping other more valuable metal such as silver, or a far better idea of stockpiling of diamond?
When Humanity first started discovering metals gold was valued solely because it did not corrode. Now it is more valuable because it is more rare. I used to so some prospecting and found that raw gold does not in fact glitter. We make it shiny with much polishing.
Gold functions as a standard for replacing barter with a universal “money”, a medium of exchange. The ideal thing for such a purpose would have no intrinsic value of its own, but would be rare and limited in supply. Diamonds and other gem stones might perform this function just as well. But for convenience, coins and paper will have to do for our everyday lives.
You’re a deep thinker, Anita, and your contributions to Y!A are substantial. I’d have had a happier life, had I found a woman like you some 40 years ago, to marry and live happily ever after with. May Vishnu preserve thee and thine for a long, long time!
Dear Anita
I am fan of your question. The valuable question u ask are always related with goodness of humans.
1. The corrosion of gold is very less than another metal.
2. Other metals on making jewellery can erode very soon than Gold and also effect the skin of body which is costly by money and medicine.
3. All elements have effects in body. some of them like aluminium is harmful for body, Iron if pure form (i.e. not oxidized) is only important. Calcium if not oxidized is importance But when you see all this the first Importance is Controlling Point bu Strong and that is Brain.
4. Its sun like shining have high energy than another, becaz energy is present in all things present in world. As it have high energy it also represent the SUN. ( same as the silver represents the moon)
5. All living beings are made of Five element. One of them is earth, The element of earth represents all things present in Earth.
6. In Earth element the gold plays the role of intelligence in brain and heat in body. And so it is also added in may medicines like chyavanprash, bramharas etc. which make it precious. (If you take practice of it to any weak child then within a week you can see its importance)
7. It is sold at any time any where. If we want to sold diamonds then it can not sold at all places becaz to purchase diamonds person not know about its properties and also not have enough money, nor have high qualities of energy like gold. But properties of gold is know by all and medicinal importance is from ancient times which the person knows. MEANS IT IS BETTER MEDIUM OF EXCHANGE.

Gold is precious because it is one among the noble metals, others are silver and platinum. Gold is rare and beautiful when mixed with copper. Its making charges, extraction from earth etc. makes it costly. Poor people cannot afford it thus it becomes the mark or symbol of rich people. Due to this people feel proud to show off their jewellery in functions and ceremonies especially in a wedding. Other than this gold being a noble metal it does not react with mild acidic and basic liquids and environmental conditions. Thus it is preferred than other metal. As for poor people silver metal becomes their gold. In north western part of our country (esp. Gujarat and Rajastan)people wear silver jewels rather than gold ones,as their traditional ornaments.
i hope so…
lolz…..
coz i hate gold…
i hate it coz its price is very high…
and that is y i decided not to buy gold …
if it really looses its lusture…i will be the first person on earth to be HAPPY…
It does not rot, it has practical uses and its great value can be stored in a small place.
gold is only yellow metal which shines only.it is not food to eat.u can use plate of gold but can’t eat.main source is grains, vegetables .for their production only require mud.. when u will get sona (gold)u will definitely forget sona(to sleep) . am i correct? imprtant thing that ,gold is not important thiung in lkife, but only food is essential..
