Is It Safe To Use Cutlery Which Has The “so Called” Silver Coating Worn Off ?

I have so called silver ware which is quite old ( heirloom?) and over use, the original shiny coating has worn off and the bottom base metal is showing. Is it still safe to use – I mean the metal would still be food grade , or would it be dangerous to eat with?

I’d keep using it. If you aren’t dead from all the coating you already ate, you’re probably fine. But then again, see how many of your ancestors are still alive… :-S

    Hello to the coating experts:-
We have a Polaron diode sputter coater we use exclusively for gold coating
for conventional 20 kV tungsten emitter SEM.
Lately the coatings being applied seem comparatively thin – instead of a
shiny metallic gold coloured coat we get a semitransparent dark gray coat.
But we are coating using the same parameters as ever : 50 mA @ 1.4 kV with
    0.2 torr of argon.

Don’t use it. If it is heirloom it probably is lead based.
