Take a moment now and look around where you live. Pretty much everything that you see there you will need eventually. Start making a list.
    Shower curtain
Can opener ( manual or electric )
    Pot holders
    Iron/ironing board
    Coffee maker
    Vacuum cleaner
    Mop and bucket
    Laundry basket
Trash cans ( for kitchen, bedrooms and bathrooms )
    Paper towels
    Windex
    Comet
Lysol toilet bowl cleaner and bowl brush
Pine Sol ( so terrific because it cleans so many different surfaces )
Swiffer ( great for dusting and the mopper is wonderful for hard flooring )
Dish scrubber ( either the little platic ball things or the wand type where you put dishwahing liquid in the handle )
    Dishwashing liquid ( I like Dawn )
Dishwasher detergent, if you have a dishwasher
Aluminum foil and plastic wrap for covering leftovers
A few of those Gladware food containers
Don’t forget to take some small munchies and something to drink on moving day. You’ll get hungry while unpacking and might not want to stop for a full meal. Also, pack a box with a roll of TP, hand soap and either a hand towel or a roll of paper towel and set up your bathroom so you can use it while unpacking. You might include shower stuff, too ( bath soap, shampoo, bath towel ). Have your bedding handy, too. You’re not going to want to dig for it at the end of the day. Get your bed set up and made early in the day and when you’re done unpacking for the day you’ll be ready to crash.

I would say that dont buy anything yet till youre actually in your new rental house already.

toilet paper light bulbs shampoo and hand soap. youd be surprised how often those essentials are overlooked ‘cuz they’re taken for granted at home.

Your first shop in a new place is always big. U’l need lots of odd little things like AV leads for setting up TV. Candles for blackouts. Speaker wire so you can set ur stereo up. Surface spray for cleaning. Mouse traps if u gonna live near bush. Etc, etc.

First/foremost… Get some type of rental insurance.. You never know if something is going to happen.. Fire/flood etc.. and you want to keep ALL you things safe ! It doesn’t cost that much and worth the piece of mind !
A basic cleaning kit could include:
    bucket
    mop
    microfiber cleaning cloths for wet/dry
    multipurpose cleaner(s)… Fantastic, BAM
    Bleach
    glass cleaner
brillo scrubby sponges/Mr. Clean or generic “magic erase” pads..
    furniture polish or lemon oil
vacuum w/ replacement bags and attachments
    shop vac for wet/dry spills
    broom/dust pan
    Laundry soap
    stain stick/spray
I like to keep vinegar/baking soda on hand…..It GREAT for all sorts of things besides cooking/baking….
Vinegar/water in a pinch is GREAT to clean glass mirrors…
or get rid of soap residue on linoleum floors or to clean wood floors…
I like baking soda to use to freshen carpeting.. Sprinkle liberally at night and vacuum the next day….I use it in laundry as a detergent booster.. It helps get rid of odors/stains and you can use LESS detergent…If you have cats it’s GREAT to absorb litterbox smells…
Non-sudsing ammonia is also CHEAP and a GREAT non-streak glass cleaner especially good to use with newspaper on windows/glass !
BLEACH is great to clean porceline/bathroom sinks/toilets/tubs…. It’s also good for unclogging the drains.. Once a month pour some into the toilet, sink drains at night to eat away clogs from hair grease.. It’s cheaper than DRAINO.. Also, good diluted in a spray bottle 1/4 cup or so spray on tub/tile to keep away mold/mildew…
    Toilet brush…
    scrub brush.
Some type of disenfectant cleaner like clorox/lysol…
I like to keep the spray around as well..
    *Emergency kit….
    flashlights w/ batteries
    candles w/ lighter/matches
    battery operated radio w/ batteries
    Small tool kit..
    hammer
screw drivers (phillips/flat head) multi sizes
    wrench
    picture hanging kits
    dry wall filler/plaster
    duct tape
    measuring tape
I’m sure there’s a ton of items I’m forgetting.. however that’s pretty much the basic “jist”
    good luck
